Alexandra Opie attended Southern Oregon University and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where she received her BA in 1997 and MFA in 2000. Her artwork has shown in Boston, Chicago, New York, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, and St. Louis. Opie teaches photography at Willamette University as the department chair.
Her artwork engages photographic forms in extended explorations of their potential to render and communicate the visible and invisible world. Her atmospheric tintype photographs are delicate, beautiful and extraordinary. Past work in video installation immersed viewers in video-mediated space.
